Winter – Spring -Winter

Just when it looked as if winter was losing its grip. Think again! Sunny and 52 degrees on Thursday. Break out the sunscreen. Well, tomorrow up the Yaak River in Montana -15 at night. Wait! What? Good thing I didn’t take my diesel heater out of the 4 runner yet. Speaking of the heater. It is worth its weight in gold. I run it Monday and Tuesday nights while I’m in my rooftop tent up in Montana. I have had it as cold as -20 and it’s nice and toasty atop the 4 runner. The best part about it, I mean other than not freezing to death. It only uses about a half gallon of diesel for the two nights.

Back to the false spring that sprung last week. It did give me a bit of the fever. Don’t get me wrong. I love winter and all that comes with it. Snow, Christmas, Hot Cocoa. But when I’m walking around in a tee shirt and a few days later I need a fur- lined set of underwear. It puts me in a bit of a tailspin. Up here in the Northwest enjoying all the seasons is a key to not going stir crazy.

I grabbed the Timbersled and headed for the mountains. Spring will be here when spring gets here. I try not to push the season. I am getting more and more used to riding the Timbersled. I still fall over about twice an outing. That is part of the fun. I can not say enough about the machine’s ability to go through almost anything. In first gear you can slowly pick your way through the trees of last summers burn in the Cabinet Mountains. Shift into second and climb almost a vertical slope. I am not pretending you will see me on the next X Games. But it takes me places that I would have to wait until June to get to in my vehicle.

In closing. All of you stay warm until spring. If any of you see the Groundhog please punch him in the face for me. See you on the next adventure. BBF out!

  1. I’ve got a warrant out on that Groundhog too, twice I almost ran into the ditch while aiming for what appeared be Mr. Hog – sooner or later his luck will run out!

I like that Diesel heater, where did you find it?
